Discord is a free communications app that lets users share voice, video, and text chat with friends and various communities. Historically, its largest use case has been gaming but now with over 190 million monthly active users, there are Discord communities for technology, art, music, investing, universities, and fashion.
Reviewing this Beginner’s Guide may be helpful for new Discord users.
Art Blocks Discord server is a public, virtual real-time hub for the Art Blocks community. Our server hosts over 46,000 members who collect, discuss, and learn about Art Blocks and generative art on a daily basis. It allows us to organize information into relevant and easily searchable topics and help artists connect directly with their collectors. Discord also allows for Bot integrations that keep the community safe and engaged such as sales reporting and our own custom Bot, ArtBot!
Our server is divided into Categories, and further subdivided into Channels. Main Categories include Main, Announcements, Info, Social, Trading, Explorations, Collaborations, Art Blocks Engine, and Featured Curated Artist. Some of these are read-only (Announcements & Info), but most allow posting. Artists with Art Blocks projects have access to additional private Discord channels to receive updates from the Art Blocks team and talk with other Art Blocks artists.
Artists are free to use any of the channels. Several channels we recommend to better engage with the community:
#artist-announcements This is for all Art Blocks artists to share announcements regarding an upcoming Art Blocks release. Additionally, artists may post a message for a variety of reasons. For example, sharing information about physical mints, upcoming exhibits, an external website for their project, cutting the total number of mints, or setting the last day a project is open.
#artist-general (private) General discussion for Art Blocks artists. Most private updates from the team will be shared here too.
#artist-tech (private) Tech-focused discussion for artists.
#artist-project-feedback (private) Channel for feedback from other artists on your Art Blocks works in progress.
#curated-artists (private) Channel for Curated Artists.
#collection-reporting Channel to report any issues or scam collections to OpenSea.
#block-talk Our most popular channel, with thousands of messages per month. This is where a majority of discussion takes place. Topics are primarily generative art and NFTs.
Users can use ArtBot to request information on any Art Blocks project here.
Although discussion can be fast moving, participating here can be especially rewarding for new artists. Reviewing earlier posts can provide a better sense of the discussion. Even reacting with emojis/GIFs can help the community become familiar with your name.
